Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Philadelphia 76ers have parted ways with Daryl Morey as president of basketball operations. Morey met with owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer on Tuesday as the decision was made to part ways after six seasons running the Sixers' front office.
The Sixers will retain Nick Nurse as head coach.
Bob Myers, who is president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, will lead the search for a new head executive for the Sixers. Myers will run the franchise's basketball department on an interim basis.
The Sixers hired Morey in 2020 soon after his exit from the Houston Rockets. Morey was responsible for drafting both Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe while also signing Paul George in free agency. Morey traded Ben Simmons for James Harden in 2022 and then Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2023.
Morey signed a contract extension in 2023 that ran through the 2027-28 season.
The Sixers reached multiple Conference Semifinals under Morey's direction, but still haven't made it to the Conference Finals since 2001.
