As of Monday afternoon, there seemed to be a chance that New York Yankees slugger and captain Aaron Judge could at least be on the Yankees' active roster for their American League wild-card playoff series against the rival Boston Red Sox.

On Tuesday morning, Jack Curry of Yes Network shared news regarding Judge's availability for the series that will get underway in the Bronx on Tuesday night.

What is Yankees' Aaron Judge call for series vs. Red Sox?

Per Curry, Judge will not be on the Yankees' roster for the wild-card series. Over the weekend, Curry revealed that he did not "envision" the Yankees risking Judge's health this week.

Judge hasn't played since he suffered a "moderate" calf strain on Sept. 16, and he previously was out of the lineup from June 1 through the evening of Sept. 7 due to a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on multiple occasions that Judge "likely" would not play against the Red Sox, despite the fact that the three-time AL Most Valuable Player told anybody who would listen that he wanted to be available.

Why Yankees made Aaron Judge call for series vs. Red Sox

"From reading the tea leaves around the Yankees about what Judge has done and hasn’t done and what kind of injury he is dealing with, I expected that he wouldn’t be on the roster," Curry added. "Fully understand Judge, the team’s leader, wanting to compete. But this is a prudent decision."

As Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News and others have noted, the soleus muscle that Judge strained is "part of the same kinetic chain as the Achilles tendon." Thus, it's assumed the Yankees are worried Judge could suffer a serious Achilles injury if he returns before he's fully healthy.

Meanwhile, Jon Morosi of MLB Network and others reported that designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is on the Yankees' wild-card roster. Stanton played in just 24 regular-season games this year, and he hasn't taken an in-game swing since April 24. It remains to be seen how many at-bats he will get against the Red Sox from Tuesday through Thursday (if a Game 3 is necessary).
