Things got weird Tuesday night.

While many fans have likely heard Mariners star Cal Raleigh’s nickname, “Big Dumper,” the Yankees’ broadcast on YES Network made sure to drill things home to its viewers during the Yanks’ 10-3 win over Seattle.

“They gave him the nickname ‘Big Dumper’ because he has a pretty large posterior,” Michael Kay said on the broadcast

The topic arose while Raleigh was on first base and the Yankees were in the middle of a mound visit, so, in the meantime, the YES crew discussed Raleigh’s nickname and its reasoning, as the camera operators made it a point to zoom their shots in very closely on Raleigh’s “large posterior.”

“We’re getting a close-up!” Paul O’Neill said through an outburst of laughter.

“I don’t know if we need that, guys,” Kay added. “Goodness!”

But the zooms continued, as the cameras got three close-up shots of the “Big Dumper” himself in the span of 40 seconds.

“We don’t miss a thing here, Michael,” O’Neill said, unable to contain his laughter.

Raleigh is a fan favorite in Seattle, and while Kay mentioned on the broadcast that Raleigh wasn’t initially a fan of his frisky nickname, “Big Dumper” has seemingly come around to bearing the name.

“It’s Dumper, Dumpy, Big Dumps, everyone’s got their own little version,” Raleigh told GQ Sports. “It’s what I am now.”

Kay mentioned the fact that the Mariners even sell Raleigh jerseys with his nickname on the back rather than his last name.

“In the stadium, you see more ‘Big Dumper’ jerseys than you do Raleigh jerseys,” Raleigh told GQ. “I think they were getting a lot of requests, so they just sell them on the rack now. Apparently they sold out. Someone brought a jersey for me to sign the other day and they said all the adult sizes were out.”

Despite the nickname jokes about Raleigh’s figure, his play on the field is deadly serious as he currently leads MLB in home runs at 36, is second in RBIs with 76 and second in OPS at 1.029, behind only Aaron Judge.
