Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayEven though they're 51-42, the New York Yankees have won just six of their last 21 games.
Once again, they haven't been able to keep the foot on the gas after a strong start to the season, and while Aaron Judge's injury has clearly taken a toll on the team, this has become a trend under Aaron Boone.
Boone is in the midst of his ninth season in charge of the Bronx Bombers, yet they continue the franchise's second-longest title drought (16 years).
Nevertheless, it looks like Boone still has the full support of general manager Brian Cashman, who thinks someone else is to blame for the team's woes.
Brian Cashman blames Yankees players, not Aaron Boone
“I think he’s a very hard worker, very well connected,” Cashman said, per The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. “I think he’s prepared. I think he’s pulling every lever he possibly can. Nothing more than I’ve said before.”
Apparently, Cashman believes the Yankees' players aren't doing the manager any favors:
“Our players are very good at what they do. Just not playing well right now. That’s just the honest assessment,” Cashman said. “We just haven’t played well for three weeks now, and it’s extremely frustrating when that’s going on.”
That might not be the wisest approach to turning a season around. While it's okay to call out the players, Boone has been there for nine seasons and has zero silverware to show for it.
Moreover, he's made the same mistakes, and the team has gone through the same rough patches year in and year out, so maybe it's time to shake things up in the coaching department as well.
The Yankees have an elite rotation and plenty of talent, though they haven't been as aggressive in pursuing talent in the past, so the players definitely have some blame for it.
That said, this has happened every year with every roster they've assembled over the past decade.
