HED Cycling was, in large part, started when Anne Hed wanted better wheels for racing Ironman triathlons. Steve Hed delivered, and over time patented some of the most aerodynamic rim shapes still in use. Now, Anne’s headed back to Kona, Hawaii, with a wildly deep new rear wheel – the HED JET 180.

Inspired, perhaps, by the 180km course, the new 180mm deep rim is for riders who don’t want a full disc rear wheel, or for courses and events where a full disc is either banned or not desirable.

We’ve reached out for specifics, but HED says this wheel handles great in all wind conditions, which was a complicated task to fulfill.

Like the other depths in the now-six-model JET lineup, the 180 gets a 21mm internal rim width and is tubeless-ready. Max external width is 32.5mm, significantly wider than the 25mm external width of the standard JET RC Pro carbon wheels.

Available in a disc brake version (1229g) and a Black Series rim brake version (1258g), choose from HG, XDR, and Campagnolo freehub bodies for $1,900. They have a 4-6 week lead time from order, and a few will be available at Bike Works in Kona.
