It was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano that the fan-favourite had agreed a deal to join newly-promoted Coventry City, with the Nigerian travelling to complete his medical.

He’s certainly captured the hearts of the fanbase during his time in Nottingham, with his impact in 2022/23 undoubtedly keeping the Reds in the Premier League.

How Liam Delap can replace Awoniyi at Forest

It’s no secret that Forest have been on the hunt for a new talisman even prior to Awoniyi’s pending departure, with Chelsea man Liam Delap a name which refuses to go away.

The Reds were linked with a move for the 23-year-old last summer, but he ultimately decided to move to Stamford Bridge instead of a switch to the City Ground.

However, his lack of success in West London has opened the door to a possible move to join Oliver Glasner’s side, with a new talisman now needed after the Nigerian’s move away.

Many fans may feel there are better options out there than Delap, but he’s at the perfect age to invest in a young forward who can reach the next level in his career upon any move.

Despite his tender age, he’s already showcased his ability to provide the goods in the Premier League, as he netted 12 goals for Ipswich Town during the 2024/25 campaign.

However, Chelsea are said to want at least £40m to sell the Englishman this window, a figure which would break Forest’s current club-record fee paid for a player.

It’s certainly a gamble worth taking for Glasner’s men, with the move for the former Manchester City youngster able to finally end the club’s hunt for a needed attacking star.

Despite the potential deal for Delap this window, the ever-ambitious Mr Marinakis is undoubtedly still lining up multiple big deals to help bolster Glasner’s side for the 2026/27 campaign.

The midfield department is one which could see big money being spent in the weeks ahead, with Liverpool star Curtis Jones just one name mentioned in such an area.

However, there’s no disputing that the club’s main transfer target for the remainder of the summer window is Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Bergvall.

He’s constantly appeared on the hierarchy’s radar in recent times, with Football Insider now providing a fresh update on the Reds’ hunt for the Swedish international.

They claim that despite having a previous offer rejected for the 20-year-old this summer, the Reds are now preparing a fresh bid to test Spurs’ resolve for the youngster.

Such a report also mentions Newcastle United’s previous offer for the midfielder, and they too could return to the table with a new bid in the weeks ahead.

However, any deal would be an expensive one for Glasner’s men, with previous reports stating that the Lilywhites are demanding £60m to offload Bergvall this window.

Whilst such a deal may appear to be an expensive one for the Reds, it’s one which could have a huge impact on Glasner’s side in the immediate and long-term future.

Such a move would allow the youngster to gain needed first-team minutes, which in turn could allow him to reach the next stage in his development - yielding Forest a huge profit on their investment.

His stats from last season showcase his quality at the heart of Spurs’ midfield, with many of his figures from 2025/26 enabling potential addition Delap to also catch the eye at the City Ground.

In the Premier League last term, Bergvall managed to make 59% of his passes into forward areas, subsequently registering 2.6 passes into the final third per 90.

Both of the aforementioned figures showcase his ability to quickly get the ball into forward areas, which in turn could see Delap be presented with golden opportunities in front of goal.

The Swedish star also managed to register 4.3 progressive carries into the final third per 90 last season, as he often broke through the lines with his direct dribbling.

Such composure in possession has allowed him to achieve such impressive figures in attacking areas and could make him an excellent option to feature behind the £40m striker target.

Bergvall’s availability this summer is music to the ears of the staff at Forest, who evidently believe he’s a player who can transform the club’s midfield department.

He would cost a pretty penny in the process, but a deal could see Delap have the perfect partner in crime to help the Reds mount a charge for a European spot next term.
