Pakistan resumed the day looking to erase a sizeable first-innings deficit and found stability through Shan Masood and Salman Agha. The pair negotiated a challenging opening spell with discipline, frustrating the West Indies attack as they rebuilt the innings. Masood, in particular, showed immense composure, brushing aside an early blow to his glove to compile a determined century that underlined his resilience.

Agha also looked settled after overturning an LBW decision through a successful review, but West Indies found the breakthrough they desperately needed when Shamar Joseph shattered his stumps. That wicket opened the floodgates, and Greaves took complete control of the contest.

The all-rounder produced an extraordinary spell of precision bowling, sending down four consecutive wicket maidens before adding another wicket shortly after lunch. Masood’s resistance finally ended on 109 when he chopped the ball back onto his stumps, while Aamer Jamal and Ali Usman quickly followed as Greaves exploited the lively surface with relentless accuracy.

Pakistan’s hopes of posting a competitive total rested on Mohammad Rizwan, but the experienced wicketkeeper-batter fell chasing a wide delivery, leaving the visitors reeling after losing five wickets for just 15 runs. Greaves completed his brilliant five-wicket haul when Mohammad Abbas edged behind, capping off a remarkable spell that swung the momentum firmly in West Indies’ favour.

Although Khurram Shahzad contributed some valuable lower-order runs, Pakistan were eventually dismissed for 282, trailing the hosts by 29 runs after the first innings.

Pakistan pace attack strikes back with relentless accuracy

Any advantage West Indies gained from Greaves’ heroics quickly came under threat as Pakistan’s fast bowlers produced a devastating display with the new ball. Abbas led the charge, making immediate inroads by dismissing Brandon King and Kavem Hodge in quick succession. Both batters edged behind after being troubled by movement off the seam, highlighting the increasingly difficult batting conditions.

Amir Jangoo‘s brief stay also ended when he chipped a return catch to Mohammad Ali, leaving West Indies in early trouble before tea. Shai Hope attempted to counterattack after the interval but paid the price for an ambitious stroke, with Ali knocking over his stumps. Pakistan’s aggression reflected their renewed confidence as the bowlers consistently extracted swing, seam movement and uneven bounce from the deteriorating pitch.

West Indies cling to advantage despite late collapse

Tagenarine Chanderpaul tried to steady the innings with a patient knock while Greaves briefly continued his impressive all-round performance in a useful partnership. However, Chanderpaul fell for 35 after mistiming a pull shot off Aamer Jamal, triggering another collapse. Greaves was then dismissed by Abbas, with Babar Azam producing a superb diving catch at cover, while Roston Chase departed soon after as West Indies slipped to 93/7.

Just when Pakistan sensed an opportunity to seize control, Shamar Joseph once again showcased his fearless batting. The fast bowler launched three towering sixes to frustrate the visitors and shift the pressure back onto them. Alongside veteran Kemar Roach, Joseph stitched together an unbeaten 33-run partnership that ensured West Indies stretched their overall lead to 155 by the close of play.

With the pitch becoming increasingly unpredictable and assistance available for both pace and bounce, the opening Test remains finely balanced heading into Day 4. West Indies will aim to push their lead beyond the 200-run mark, while Pakistan know that a few early wickets could hand them a realistic chance of chasing a manageable target.
