England are all set to host India in a blockbuster five-match T20I series, with the opening encounter scheduled to be played in Chester-le-Street on Tuesday. The series promises to be one of the biggest white-ball contests of the year, featuring a mix of established international stars and exciting young talents from both sides. However, India enter the tour under pressure after suffering a disappointing 0-2 T20I series defeat against Ireland. Led by Shreyas Iyer, the visitors will be eager to bounce back quickly, but former India opener Wasim Jaffer believes England head into the series with a slight advantage for a few key reasons.

Wasim Jaffer explains why England have the upper hand against India

Speaking on his YouTube channel ahead of the series, Jaffer admitted that England would present a much bigger challenge than Ireland and suggested that the recent defeats would give the hosts additional confidence. According to the former opener, England will believe they have a genuine opportunity to beat India after watching the visitors struggle in Ireland. He also pointed out that India’s squad lacks two of its biggest match-winners in Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, making the team comparatively less formidable.

“England will definitely be a tougher challenge. After the Ireland series, England will also believe that they can beat India. There are loopholes as there is no Bumrah and Hardik. Two important players. Somebody else has to fill those shoes. The England series will be even more tougher. I hope India start to play at their best after this wake-up call,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.

Jaffer believes Bumrah’s absence leaves a significant gap in India’s bowling attack, especially during the powerplay and death overs, where the premier fast bowler has consistently delivered in pressure situations. Similarly, Hardik’s all-round abilities provide balance to the side, allowing India greater flexibility with both bat and ball.

Without the experienced duo, India will need other players to shoulder greater responsibility. The series could serve as an opportunity for several youngsters and fringe players to prove they can perform consistently against one of the strongest white-ball teams in the world.

A blockbuster series awaits cricket fans

Despite India’s recent struggles, anticipation for the five-match series remains sky-high. England possess an explosive batting lineup and a well-rounded bowling attack, while India have travelled with an exciting blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents.

Much of the spotlight will be on teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has generated immense excitement following his rise through the ranks. Although he is yet to make his international debut, fans are eager to see whether the team management hands the youngster an opportunity during the series.

Apart from Suryavanshi, several established stars will also look to make an impact as both teams continue building towards future ICC tournaments. With attacking batters, quality pace bowlers and plenty of all-round talent on display, the series has all the ingredients to produce thrilling contests.
