Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Golden State Warriors have shown no interest in the Phoenix Suns’ efforts to acquire forward Jonathan Kuminga, according to a report from The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Despite Phoenix reportedly offering a four-year, $90 million contract, Amick states the discussions “have never progressed in any serious manner.”
Per team sources cited by Amick, Golden State remains firm in its stance and continues to reject the Suns’ trade proposals outright.
Kuminga, 22, is still a restricted free agent after the Warriors extended a $7.9 million qualifying offer, but no long-term deal has been reached.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the former No. 7 pick would be open to joining the Suns and has grown frustrated with the lack of commitment from Golden State.
Those salary-matching restrictions, triggered by signing a restricted free agent to a large raise, complicate potential sign-and-trade options for Golden State.
Amick reported that Phoenix’s aggressive offer is “irrelevant” as long as the Warriors remain uninterested in the assets the Suns are putting on the table.
Golden State is seeking a sign-and-trade package that includes a young player, a future first-round pick, and avoids long-term salary burdens.
Without such a return, team sources indicated they are unwilling to engage, regardless of Kuminga’s contract preferences or Phoenix’s enthusiasm.
If Kuminga accepts the $7.9 million qualifying offer before the October 1 deadline, he would return to the Warriors on a one-year deal with a no-trade clause.
That clause would give him the power to veto any potential trade, further complicating Golden State’s ability to move him midseason.
Kuminga averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in the 2024–25 season, showing significant growth after the All-Star break and increased playing time under head coach Steve Kerr.
