The Golden State Warriors reportedly never received a direct request from LeBron James or his agent, Rich Paul, to make a specific roster move in exchange for his commitment in free agency.

Even so, league sources believed that acquiring another superstar could have significantly improved Golden State’s chances of signing James.

Anthony Davis, James’ former championship teammate with the Los Angeles Lakers, was viewed as the player most likely to change the situation.

Despite that, the Warriors never seriously explored a trade with the Washington Wizards.

The organization was unwilling to include Jimmy Butler or the substantial draft assets such a deal would have required without a firm commitment from James.
