Tom enjoys writing features about teams in the Football League and Premier League, whilst also receiving the opportunity to conduct interviews on behalf of FFC.

Having written for The RedmenTV, he is particularly an expert on all things Liverpool.

Thomas Tuchel was left with plenty of questions after England's 4-2 victory over Croatia, and Danny Mills believes that one of those questions should centre around his team selection.

The England boss has stolen plenty of headlines with his selection in recent weeks, leaving Harry Maguire, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer at home in ruthless fashion.

The trend of bold decisions only continued in the opening game, too. The German did not hesitate to make some interesting changes once England regained their lead in the second-half, surprisingly subbing Declan Rice and introducing Morgan Rogers before switching to a 4-4-2 to kill the game.

It's a far cry from the safety that Gareth Southgate was often accused of, but that's not to say every problem has been solved. This is still an England side that struggled in the first-half, particularly when pressed, and one that will not get away with similar mistakes against the best teams in the tournament.

Tuchel certainly has plenty to think about as the Three Lions head into their second game of the group stage against Ghana on Tuesday, and Mills believes that the England boss should make one crucial change.

Mills backs Tuchel to drop England star

Speaking to Football FanCast, Mills backed Tuchel to drop Ezri Konsa in favour of Marc Guehi following a difficult first game for the Aston Villa star.

The former Leeds and England man outlined the defensive "issues" that England were struggling with against Croatia, which Guehi could solve against Ghana.

"Defensively, there are still some issues that need ironing out. Tuchel needs to keep Reece James wrapped up in cottonwool a little bit – the same with Harry Kane. I’d start John Stones but I’d have him next to Marc Guehi rather than Ezri Konsa. But you want to avoid disrupting the center-half partnerships too often."

It's hard to argue against that. Ahead of the tournament, there was a public belief that Guehi would be the guaranteed starter at the heart of England's backline, only for Konsa and John Stones to get the nod against Croatia.

That experiment may now come to an end before it's truly started, with Guehi a strong contender to regain his place next to Stones as far as Mills is concerned.

Should the Manchester City man re-emerge and solve England's defensive issue, then they could quickly become the favourites to win their first World Cup since 1966.
