Trey Kaufman-Renn has received a sixth season of NCAA basketball eligibility after a judge granted a temporary restraining order. Kaufman-Renn is seeking to return to college basketball, after spending five seasons at Purdue and being drafted in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft.

Kaufman-Renn redshirted for the Boilermakers during the 2021-22 season. He then played in 147 games over the next four seasons. Kaufman-Renn is contesting that under the NCAA's five years of eligibility policy that he should have a year left of collegiate eligibility.

The Minnesota Timberwolves drafted the 6-foot-9 forward with the 59th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Kaufman-Renn played five Summer League games for Minnesota, but never signed an official NBA contract. The Wolves are said to be fully supportive of Kaufman-Renn's desire to return to college. Minnesota would retain Kaufman-Renn's draft rights moving forward.
