Trae Young is expected to remain in Washington for the long term, as the star guard plans to sign a new four-year contract worth approximately $212 million, according to ESPN.

The agreement will include a player option for the fourth season and comes after Young declined his $49 million player option in favor of securing a longer commitment ahead of free agency.

Sources indicate that the Wizards and Young’s representatives, CAA’s Co-Head of Basketball Aaron Mintz, along with agents Ray Young, Andrew Morrison, and Co-Head of Basketball Austin Brown, agreed to a deal that is below Washington’s maximum offer but matches the maximum contract Young could have received from another team.

Young, a four-time NBA All-Star, had reportedly made it clear earlier this year that Washington was the only destination he was interested in being traded to.

By committing to this new deal, he reinforces his desire to build his future with the Wizards and help lead the franchise’s developing young core into its next phase.
