Orgo-Life the new way to the future

Tottenham Hotspur have publicly backed Roberto De Zerbi despite their alarming start to the 2026/27 Premier League season, with chief executive Vinai Venkatesham insisting the club’s major summer overhaul needs time to produce results.

Spurs are bottom of the table after collecting only two points from their opening five league matches, leaving De Zerbi under increasing scrutiny.

The poor start is particularly striking after Tottenham committed more than £380million to new players during a dramatic summer rebuild.

Venkatesham has publicly backed Tottenham boss De Zerbi

According to GOAL, Venkatesham used Tottenham’s first Fan Advisory Board meeting of the season to express confidence in De Zerbi, the new signings and the wider changes made behind the scenes.

Ten players arrived during the summer, including Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Savio, while several experienced members of the squad departed.

Venkatesham acknowledged supporters’ frustration with results but said the club had undergone “significant changes” both on and off the pitch that could take time to fully settle.

He has also pointed to encouraging elements of Tottenham’s performances since their opening-day defeat to Brentford, despite the team failing to turn promising passages of play into victories.

Results must improve quickly for Spurs and De Zerbi

There is some logic behind Tottenham’s patience. Integrating 10 new players while changing important parts of the squad was always likely to create an adjustment period.

However, the financial scale of the rebuild inevitably raises expectations. The Independent reports that Spurs also generated around £150m through player sales, while the Lewis family recently injected another £120m into the club.

That makes this more than simply a question of De Zerbi needing time. Tottenham have made a major strategic commitment to his project and will expect clear signs of progress.

A public vote of confidence should therefore help calm immediate speculation over his position, but football rarely allows struggling managers unlimited patience.

Spurs cannot afford to remain near the bottom for long after consecutive 17th-place finishes.

For De Zerbi, the message appears straightforward: the board still believes in the rebuild, but improved performances now need to start producing points.
