Baseball’s top prospect, Roman Anthony, is headed to The Show.

The Red Sox prospect confirmed that he was being called up to the major leagues as he left Polar Park on Monday afternoon, according to a video posted by MassLive’s Katie Morrison-O’Day.

The promotion comes ahead of the Red Sox series with the Rays, which began Monday night at Fenway Park, and brings the consensus No. 1 prospect in baseball to the big leagues after the Sawx took two out of three games against the Yankees over the weekend.

The 21-year-old outfielder hit .288 for Triple-A Worcester with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs in 58 games, and hit a 497-foot grand slam during a 10-4 win over Rochester on Saturday.

“Got it and didn’t really miss it,” Anthony told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. “So it felt great.”

Anthony holds the honor of being the youngest player to be called up by the Red Sox since a 20-year-old Rafael Devers was called up in 2017.

And Anthony joins the Red Sox’s other big-name prospects — Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer — in Boston.

Mayer, a close friend of Anthony, was excited for the outfield prospect inside the Red Sox clubhouse on Monday after hearing the news, calling the move “a long time coming.”

“It has been talked about for a very long time. It’s kind of crazy today’s the day we’re all going to share the field together in the big leagues. I’m super excited. I think we have a really good team and he’s just another addition,” Mayer told MassLive.

“I actually heard through the grapevine here, so right when I heard, I shot him a text and called him.”

A roster spot opened for Anthony after the Red Sox placed Wilyer Abreu on the injured list, Ken Rosenthal reported.

Anthony was selected 79th in the 2022 draft using a pick the Red Sox received as compensation after Eduardo Rodriguez turned down a qualifying offer and signed with Detroit.
