Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayUFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall gave his first full breakdown of Ciryl Gane vs. Alex Pereira since the fight was announced.
The historic UFC Freedom 250 card features an interim heavyweight title co-main event between two-division champion Alex Pereira against former interim titleholder Ciryl Gane. The Gane vs. Pereira winner will presumably fight the lineal UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall upon Aspinall’s full recovery from multiple eye surgeries.
Pereira will look to become the first UFC fighter to win titles in three different divisions, despite the technical ‘interim’ designation. He opted to make the full-time move to the heavyweight division at a time when the division was in desperate need of star power and clarity.
But Pereira will face one of the steepest tests of his career against Gane, who has fought some of the division’s greatest fighters, including Jon Jones, Francis Ngannou, and Junior dos Santos. Gane also presents an unorthodox striking repertoire that could give Pereira problems.
Ahead of the matchup, and despite his ongoing feud with Gane, Aspinall believes history won’t be made in Washington D.C.
Tom Aspinall believes Ciryl Gane’s movement will give Alex Pereira problems at UFC White House
In a recent appearance on the Fight Your Corner podcast, Aspinall shared his prediction for Gane vs. Pereira on the White House lawn.
“Alex carries a lot of power at light heavyweight and middleweight, but he’s been fighting a lot smaller guys who punch a lot less hard. So he’s able to carry that power because he’s punching guys he’s a lot bigger than,” Aspinall said of Gane vs. Pereira.
“Alex is also very good when he fights light heavyweights or middleweights who don’t move a lot. Ciryl Gane, he’s a massive heavyweight who moves a lot, and moves really, really well. Fluid on his feet, in-and-out, judges the distance really well. So stylistically, I think it’s a good matchup for Gane. But that being said, Gane doesn’t like leg kicks. He doesn’t fare well against them. Good kicker, but if someone kicks him, his leg defense isn’t great…
“Alex is an unbelievable leg kicker,” Aspinall continued. “It’s a hard fight to call, but I’d say Gane by points. I think he’s going to move too much for Pereira.”
One of Pereira’s former rivals, Jiri Prochazka, disagreed with Aspinall’s prediction. Prochazka predicts Pereira will fight through Gane’s movement to win his third UFC title.
