Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Oklahoma City Thunder were unable to reach the Finals as part of their NBA championship defense, losing to the San Antonio Spurs in seven games. The Thunder have firmly signaled across the league that they will not make any deals that transform their core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren.
"The message Oklahoma City is sending out is they're not touching that core," said Brian Windhorst on Monday's episode of Get Up. "You can choose not to believe them if you want. They say they're running it back."
The future of Holmgren with the Thunder after his disappointing play against Victor Wembanyama has been an open topic in the media, but the possibility of Sam Presti trading him to better compete against the San Antonio Spurs has no basis in reality. The availability of Giannis Antetokounmpo on the trade market has called Holmgren's future into question as the Milwaukee Bucks superstar could theoretically be the better option to combat Wembanyama.
Holmgren is set to begin the first season of his five-year, $239.2 million contract at 25 percent of the salary cap. Holmgren made an All-NBA team this past season for the first time in his career and he also finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
Williams will also be on the same five-year, $239.2 million extension. Williams would have been on a five-year, $287 million contract had he made an All-NBA team this past season as he was in 2025.
