Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayHappy 34th birthday to eight-time MLB All-Star, four-time World Series champion and 2018 American League MVP, Mookie Betts!
Betts made his Major League debut with the Boston Red Sox in 2014 and he developed into one of the most loved players in recent Red Sox history. By 2016 he was an All-Star, hitting .318 with 31 home runs, 113 RBI and leading all of baseball with 359 total bases. In 2018 he was the focal point of one of the most successful Boston teams ever. The Red Sox set a franchise record with 108 wins, with Betts winning both the MLB batting title and MVP honors with a staggering 10.7 WAR.
Much to the chagrin of Boston fans, the Red Sox traded Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers rather than signing him to a pricey contract extension, a move that has worked out well for Betts. Despite dealing with a position change and a bizarre illness, Betts has added three more World Series titles to his collection while racking up 925 hits and 512 RBI in seven seasons with the Dodgers.
Betts once again is spending his birthday working towards making a deep October run, with the Dodgers facing the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. The Wins Above Replacement (or WAR) stat measures how many more wins a player has contributed compared to a replacement-level player. With that being said, can you name the position players to lead MLB in WAR for each season since 1996?
Good luck!
