The 2026 edition of the Tour Divide starts Friday, June 12th, roughly following the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR). The GDMBR was developed and mapped by Adventure Cycling Association in 1997, stretching roughly 2,700 miles from Canada to Mexico, and it’s widely regarded as the route that gave rise to modern bikepacking. First held in 2008, the Tour Divide is an annual self-supported race that follows the GDMBR from Banff, Alberta, just north of the Canada–U.S. border, to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, at the Mexican border.

Although the Tour Divide remains an unofficial event, participants are expected to follow a well-established set of rules and guidelines, as well as an official route. The race largely follows the GDMBR, but small route changes and approved deviations occur from year to year. Recently, Scott Morris released the official 2026 Tour Divide route files, available for download from TopoFusion. The 2026 Tour Divide route remains mostly unchanged from last year, except for a diversion out of Silver City, New Mexico. The race will now route onto the San Vicente RR Grade Trail instead of the traditional San Vicente Creek Trail. To make planning easier, we’ve also added the 2026 route to our Ride With GPS route database and updated our dedicated GDMBR route page with the latest file that maps roughly 2,680 miles and 160,000 feet of climbing. Additionally, we’ve integrated Sarah Swallow’s custom POI set, which marks the locations of food, water, markets, bike shops, campgrounds, mountain passes, and other services along the route. Find that here and embedded below.

The 2026 Tour Divide Route Collection

Additionally, there’s a collection containing the entire 2026 Tour Divide broken into seven individual sections, breaking the big route into bite-sized segments to help with GPS head unit functionality and file management. You can find it under the Trail Notes tab on our GDMBR route page.
