Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Golden State Warriors are losing lassistant Terry Stotts and defensive coordinator Jerry Stackhouse this offseason. The moves come despite the agreement to retain Steve Kerr as head coach on a two-year contract.
Both assistants completed two seasons under Kerr before their contracts expired. Stotts notified Kerr late in the regular season that he would not return.
"I enjoyed my time with Steve, the staff and players," said Stotts. "My two years there were fulfilling. Nothing but well-wishes."
Stotts brings nearly three decades of coaching experience, including nine seasons leading the Portland Trail Blazers. He remains open to NBA head coaching positions elsewhere.
Stackhouse joined the Warriors in July 2024, replacing Kenny Atkinson following Atkinson's move to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Prior to Golden State, Stackhouse spent five seasons as head coach at Vanderbilt. He is also departing to pursue head coaching opportunities.
The staff changes extend beyond Stotts and Stackhouse. Assistant Chris DeMarco left in January to become head coach of the New York Liberty, with veteran assistant Kris Weems stepping up and expected to remain on staff.
Former New Orleans Pelicans head coach Willie Green has emerged as a candidate to fill one of the vacancies, per league sources. Green began his NBA coaching career with Golden State in 2016, serving three seasons under Kerr. Green and Kerr remain close.
The Warriors finished last season with 37 wins, missing the playoffs entirely. Kerr recently signed a two-year contract extension, remaining the NBA's highest-paid coach.
