The purse bid between Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis has taken place and featured a surprise bid from welterweight rival Teofimo Lopez.

Haney is the current WBO welterweight champion, having won the belt back in November with a unanimous decision victory over Brian Norman Jr, becoming a three-weight world champion in the process after previous reigns at 135lbs and 140lbs.

He is yet to compete since, and has now been mandated to defend his gold against former WBO lightweight champion Davis, who after losing his belt on the scales in 2025 has since claimed victories Jamaine Ortiz and Nahir Albright over the past six months.

After an extended period of negotiations saw the teams unable to reach an agreement on the fight, a purse bid hearing was held today, where two official bids were submitted, including one which was unexpected from Lopez’s Takeover Promotions.

Lopez’s outfit bid $2,350,000, but they were unable to secure the fight, as they were comfortably outbid by Davis’ promoter Top Rank, who submitted an offer of $8,550,000 for the contest against Haney.

It was also revealed that the proposed date from Top Rank for the event is October 3, either at the Barclays Center in New York, the State Farm Arena in Atlanta or the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

The 147lb division now looks set to flourish over the coming weeks, as Lopez himself is set to return to action next month, as he goes up against WBA (Super) welterweight champion Rolando Romero at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 22.
