Jaron Ennis has long been in pursuit of Terence Crawford, but the latter’s retirement appeared to end hopes of seeing the bout. Now, after the pair clashed on live on air alongside him, two-time world champion Shawn Porter has shared his thoughts on a potential fight.

Crawford hung up the gloves after becoming boxing’s first post-war three-division undisputed champion late last year, whilst Ennis has moved up to super-welterweight and become a unified world champion at a second weight by knocking out Xander Zayas in a performance of the year candidate back in June.

Last week, during the broadcast of Damian Kenya’s triumph over Andy Ruiz Jr, both Ennis and Crawford were on the TNT Sports panel and it did not take long for talk of their possible meeting to be brought up, with ‘Boots’ keen to hand Crawford a first career defeat.

Speaking with Sean Zittel during the aftermath, Porter described Ennis as an ‘unwashed Lamborghini’ and declared that he needs to go through ‘the entire process’ before he can secure an opportunity to face Crawford.

“Boots is amazing. It’s funny, man, because you have got a clean Lamborghini sat next to a Lamborghini that ain’t been through the washer yet. Bud would be the clean ‘Lambo’ that is ready to go and Boots has got to go through the washer.

“Upon going through the washer, you have got to go through the entire process of being washed and polished – that is really what it is – and it is happening right now.”

“I said a couple of years ago that Bud has got another couple of years before Boots would be somebody that could really pose a serious threat to him.”

Continuing, Porter went on to state that Ennis’ best chance of landing the fight is by becoming the undisputed super-welterweight world champion, thus offering Crawford the prospect of holding the undisputed title in a fourth weight-class.

“He [Ennis] could definitely entice him [Crawford] by getting all of the belts.”

Ennis, who holds the WBA and WBO super-welterweight titles, is being linked to a showdown with IBF champion Josh Kelly before the end of the year, with the victor expected to compete in an undisputed title bout against WBC ruler Sebastian Fundora during the first half of 2027.

The face-to-face clash doesn’t appear to be the last chapter in the rivalry, as Crawford recently asked fans on social media if they would like to see the fight made.
