Sean Strickland was injured prior to UFC 328, and he certainly didn’t walk out of his middleweight title win unscathed.

Strickland stunned the MMA world once again by defeating Khamzat Chimaev via split decision this past Saturday in Newark. Despite separating his shoulder four days before fight night, Strickland gutted things out and forced “Borz” into a dogfight. The plan worked, as Strickland is now a two-time UFC Middleweight Champion.

While Strickland’s toughness is one of his biggest strengths inside the Octagon, he figures to be shelved for a bit. The 185-pound king took to his X account to reveal the severity of his injuries coming out of UFC 328.

Type 2 AC separation
Extended Type V SLAP tear
Partial rotator cuff tearing/tendinosis

Gonna have to walk this one off...

“Type 2 AC separation
Extended Type V SLAP tear
Partial rotator cuff tearing/tendinosis

“Gonna have to walk this one off…”

During the UFC 328 post-fight show, Strickland said he wanted to get some rest and heal up before thinking about his next challenger. He mentioned his busted nose at the time, which wasn’t noted in his X post.

Strickland told reporters that he feels Chimaev should work his way back into title contention. He’d rather face Nassourdine Imavov next. The two collided back in 2023 and the bout was contested at light heavyweight. Strickland won that fight via unanimous decision. Since then, Imavov has gone 5-0, 1 NC.

Strickland has a chance to prove he can successfully defend a UFC title once he is ready to get back to action. His first title reign ended without a successful defense, as he was beaten by Dricus du Plessis. Strickland also ended up falling short in the rematch with “Stillknocks.”

BJPenn.com will keep you posted with more injury updates on Strickland as further details continue to surface.
