Sorry, that this “Saturday at the Glen Race Report” is a week late, but that is because the MXA gang had to go to Millville for the 2027 Honda  CRF450, which took up almost a week of time, but we called the MXA photographers who shot the August 1 “Saturday at the Glen” race and had them send a boatload of photos from August 1 and then after three days of testing new bikes at Glen Helen , we went back over the August 8-9 weekend and built a whole new August 1 photo gallery just to make sure that we filled in the gaps. Luckily, Debbi Tamietti had plenty of August 1 photos on file and, thankfully, Glen Helen has  a results page that included all of the August 1, race results, plus lap times.

Anton Nordstrom (667) went 1-2 to lose the  450 Expert class to Colton Aeck’s better 2-1 score. Photo: Jon Ortner

Glen Helen has lots of scenic sights and memorable people. Here, World Two-Stroke Championship promoter Pasha Afshar races his exotic KTM 150SX in the Over-50 Expert class. Photo: Jon Ortner

Polish racer Arek Kruk (79) went 4-4 in the Over-50 Expert class, but every rider in SoCal knows what it means when the rider behind you is Kurt Nicoll (2) because he isn’t going to stay there for very long, and it doesn’t help if  South African Alan Julien (70) is closing in. Photo: Jon Ortner

Craig Davis took the victory in the Over-50 Expert class when first moto winner Kurt Nicoll decided not to race the second moto in the 105-degree heat, but instead focused on winning the Over-60 Expert class. Craig’s 2-1 took the win the Over-50 Expert class, Alan Julien’s 3-2 handed him second overall. Photo: Jon Ortner

Ricky Richards (55) was assigned to race MXA’s Suzuki RM-Z250 because he was a Suzuki racer until a couple years ago. A 250 is at a disadvantage in the predominantly 450 dominated Over-50 Expert class and it doesn’t help an RM-Z250 that Glen Helen’s start is very long and very fast  (and followed immediately by a very steep hill), but Ricky went 5-3 for third overall and made lots of passes because of the RM-Z’s turning prowess.  Photo: Jon Ortner

Shawn Bushnell normally races a Husqvarna FC450, but MXA assigned Shawn to switch to a GasGas MC450. Shawn raced it to fourth in the Open Expert class and third in the Over-40 Expert class. Photo: Jon Ortner

The Velodrome corner is a steeply banked 180-degree turn that has the identical geometry as the Talladega first turn, but is designed to be smaller and tighter. Here, two MXA test riders take different approaches. Photo: Debbi Tamietti

Val Tamietti (31) went 2-2 in the Over-65 Expert class in front of  Ron Lawson (910), but behind Mike Monaghan (below). Photo: Debbi Tamietti

Mike Monaghan (34) did what everyone told him was impossible when he quitting racing 450 four-strokes and switched to a YZ125. Well, on  Saturday, August 1, 2026, Mike went 1-1 to win the Over-65 Expert class. Photo: Debbi Tamietti

Luther French (21) went 2-2 behind Kurt Nicoll’s 1-1, Jon Ortner’s 3-3 and Ron Shuler’s 4-4 in the Over-60 Expert class.

Antonio Grosso (262) was second in the 250 Novice class. Photo: Debbi Tamietti

Jim O’Neal (127) finished second behind Lee Daniels (1-1)  in the Over-70 class. Photo: Debbi Tamietti

Ricky Richards (39) was third in the Over-50 Expert class behind Alan Jullien and Craig Davis. Photo: Jon Ortner

Matas Inda (13) finished third overall in the 450 Expert class with a 4-3 behind Colton Aeck and Anton Nordstrom. Photo: Debbi Tamietti

Cody Brownfield was fourth in the 450 Expert class and fifth in the Open Expert class. Photo: Debbi Tamietti.

The oldest weekly class at “Saturday at the Glen” is the Over-70 class. The next oldest classes are is the Over-65 classes which is full of riders who are old enough to race in the Over-70 class, but prefer the bigger fields in the Over-65 classes . Marc Crosby, the “Dentist of the Stars,” has to wait a few more years before he can move up to race against Bob Rutten, Val Tamietti and Gary Jones. Marc went 4-2 in the Over-70 class.
