Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayRyan Garcia questioned Oscar De La Hoya after the Golden Boy founder publicly criticized his September 12 WBC welterweight title fight against Conor Benn. Garcia said he doesn’t understand why his own promoter would tell fans the matchup isn’t appealing while sharing in the event.
Earlier this month, De La Hoya said on Instagram, “Nobody is asking for this fight. The fans are definitely not wanting this fight. If it were up to me, I would have picked Devin Haney for the rematch. That’s a much bigger fight.”
Ryan responded during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.
“I just want a structured team that’s behind me and people that aren’t going to talk down on me if I’m on their team,” Ryan said. “I don’t understand why Oscar De La Hoya would have to go on Instagram Live and say, ‘Nobody wants to watch this fight.’ What is the point of that? Think about that. I’m your fighter. You shouldn’t say things like that. That doesn’t make sense.”
Garcia also questioned why De La Hoya would publicly criticize an event that benefits Golden Boy financially.
“Of course, he profits off the Benn fight,” Ryan said. “Yeah, it bothers me because it makes no sense. You’re getting paid off it. I don’t understand why you’re talking s*** about it. It’s like, bro, collect your check and move on. What is the point of that? It makes no sense. You’re getting paid.”
Ryan said he has no interest in continuing the disagreement.
“I haven’t even talked s*** about him in a long time. I don’t understand where that came from. I had no problems with you. I still don’t. I don’t really care. I just don’t understand why you’re putting my fight down.”
Garcia also said he expects to leave Golden Boy once his promotional contract expires, with plans to continue building Ryan Garcia Promotions after becoming a free agent.
