A loan deal taking Ronald Araujo from Barcelona to Liverpool is “all done”, according to Fabrizio Romano, and will include a buy option.

The Reds have moved quickly to snap up Araujo from Barca in a surprise move which should give them decent cover in defence for the season ahead.

For now, it’s just a temporary deal, but Liverpool have the option to keep Araujo if they want to, though they’re also under no obligation to do so, according to Romano in his X post below…

Some Liverpool fans might be a little underwhelmed by this deal as Araujo hasn’t exactly been in the best form for Barca lately, but the club needed to do something to add depth at the back.

Ronald Araujo is not enough for Liverpool

For now, Araujo looks like a decent low-cost option to join Liverpool as a squad player, but it’s also surely fair to say that they need more in that position.

Ibrahima Konate left Anfield on a free transfer at the end of last season, and Virgil van Dijk recently turned 35 after already showing some signs of decline in Liverpool’s hugely disappointing 2025/26 campaign.

LFC will be fine if they add Araujo as a squad player, but if that’s the only centre-back they bring in this summer that’s surely a failed window.

Jeremy Jacquet is another option, but he’s young and inexperienced and has had recent injury problems, so a genuine top class signing is surely needed as soon as possible.

It’s generally been a bit of a quiet summer so far for Liverpool, who are also yet to make a significant move to replace Mohamed Salah in their attack.
