Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe WBA welterweight champion believes beating the former undisputed lightweight champion would transform his legacy when they meet on August 22 in Las Vegas
Rolly Romero believes defeating Teofimo Lopez on August 22 would elevate him into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, adding another layer of significance to their WBA welterweight title fight. Lopez, meanwhile, says the bout is his chance to become a three-division world champion.
“I feel pretty good right now. We’re gonna have to see if I’m even better than I was against Ryan Garcia,” said Romero. “I’ve missed boxing. I really don’t do this for anything other than the love of the sport.
“A fight’s a fight, a sparring session is sparring. Everyone’s sparring each other. People get cracked. Now we’re doing it under the big lights for a belt. I feel like this fight gives me the opportunity to become a Hall of Famer.”
Teofimo sees the matchup as an opportunity to add another world title in a new weight class.
“It’s put up or shut up,” said Teofimo. “We’re at a point in time in my career where everything is at stake. I want to thank the champ for stepping up to the plate. I’m looking forward to becoming a three-division world champion at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 22.”
The bout headlines the first PBC pay-per-view following the company’s new distribution agreement with DAZN. Rolly is coming off his upset victory over Ryan Garcia, while Lopez moves up from light welterweight seeking to become a three-division world champion by capturing Romero’s WBA welterweight title.
