Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Monster Energy SuperMotocross World Championship gets underway this weekend as the series heads to Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, for the opening round of the 2026 SMX Playoffs. After 17 rounds of Supercross and 11 rounds of Pro Motocross, the top riders from both disciplines now go head-to-head with the SMX World Championship on the line. With the points reset for the playoffs, every moto becomes even more important as the championship battle begins all over again.
In the 450 class, 2026 Pro Motocross champion Hunter Lawrence enters Columbus as one of the favorites after finally capturing his first outdoor title. Lawrence edged out his brother Jett by just two points for the National Championship, but Jett will not be lining up in Columbus after announcing he will undergo surgery for his foot and ankle injury. With Jett out, the door is open for a new SMX title contender to step up.
Ken Roczen also enters the playoffs with plenty of momentum after winning the 2026 Supercross Championship. Roczen skipped the Pro Motocross season, but his experience and Supercross speed could make him a major factor as the series moves into the hybrid-style SMX tracks. Haiden Deegan and Jorge Prado will also be riders to watch after finishing third and fourth, respectively, in the Pro Motocross standings.
The 250 class could be just as interesting, with Pro Motocross champion Cole Davies looking to continue his breakout season. Davies captured the 250 National Championship and now has a chance to become the first rider to win the 250 Supercross, Pro Motocross, and SMX titles in the same season. He will have plenty of competition, including Supercross contenders and former SMX champion Haiden Deegan, who will be looking to close out the season strong.
Columbus will also bring a new challenge for the riders as Historic Crew Stadium hosts the opening SMX Playoff for the first time. The track features big jumps, fast sections, technical rhythm sections, and elevation changes, giving riders a combination of Supercross and motocross-style elements. With only three rounds remaining in the SMX season, there isn't much room for mistakes.
SMX Playoff 1 takes place Saturday, September 12, with Race Day Live beginning at 9:00 AM ET and the opening ceremonies at 2:30 PM. The 250 and 450 motos are scheduled to begin at 3:06 PM and 3:43 PM, with the second motos following later in the afternoon. After 28 rounds of Supercross and Pro Motocross racing, the championship chase starts over in Columbus.
