Newcastle United are assessing options to strengthen their forward line ahead of the new season, with Brentford’s Yoane Wissa emerging as a serious candidate to provide depth and quality alongside Alexander Isak.

Following the departure of Callum Wilson, the Magpies are determined to ensure that manager Eddie Howe has sufficient firepower in attack next season.

Wilson’s exit leaves a significant gap in terms of experience and goal-scoring reliability, making the addition of a dependable deputy for Isak a top priority in Newcastle’s summer plans.

Newcastle United admire Brentford star Yoane Wissa

According to The Daily Mail, there are figures within Newcastle’s recruitment team who are strong admirers of Wissa, recognising his proven ability to deliver in the Premier League and his versatility across the front line.

The Brentford attacker scored 20 goals in all competitions last season in 39 appearances.

The Congolese international’s experience in the Premier League ensures that he could adapt seamlessly at St James’ Park, reducing the bedding-in period that often comes with players arriving from other leagues.

His work ethic and attacking style would add an extra dimension to Newcastle’s attack and would also provide Isak the necessary rest that he needs in a demanding season for the Magpies who will also have to play Champions League football next season.

With Brentford holding firm on their high valuation of Manchester United target Bryan Mbeumo, they would be expected to do the same for Wissa.

To lose two of their best attacking players in the same window would be disastrous for Brentford but if they receive a substantial offer, they would be open to the sale of their attacking duo.

While Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also a target for the Magpies this summer, Wissa is a much better option considering his goal scoring record and Calvert-Lewin’s problems with injuries.
