Prior to a hot streak that has seen them get to within 1/2 game of an AL playoff spot, the Boston Red Sox were among teams that would likely be sellers at the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline.

One popular name as a potential trade piece was first baseman Willson Contreras. Contreras, though, reportedly has no plans to play for any team for the remainder of his career.

Willson Contreras won't waive no-trade clause

According to a report from MassLive.com Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo, Contreras has informed the organization that he has no intentions to waive his no-trade clause either this year or next year. 

Contreras also informed the organization that he intends to finish his career with the Red Sox.

Willson Contreras is under contract through next season

Contreras signed a five-year, $87.5 million contract with the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the 2023 season and was traded to Boston during the middle of his contract.

That means that Contreras is set to reach free agency after the 2027 season, the year in which he will turn 35-years-old. 

If he intends to remain with the Red Sox for the rest of his career, Contreras will either retire after the 2027 season or sign one more contract with Boston to finish out his career.
