Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayWith another win, his second of the month, Sonny Gray's career resurgence has turned into putting together a season that can be argued as the best season of his overall career.
And after losing his last start, a defeat at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays on Aug. 10, Gray got back on track on Saturday in helping the Boston Red Sox even their three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Sonny Gray is now tied for the MLB lead in wins
Gray, 36, earned his 15th win, tying him for the Major League lead with Cristopher Sánchez of the Philadelphia Phillies. He now has two more wins than the Cleveland Guardians' Foster Griffin for the American League lead.
Gray pitched seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing six hits, one walk and striking out seven batters as the Red Sox eventually beat the Pirates, 4-0. Gray
In 23 starts, Gray now holds a 15-3 record with a 2.65 ERA, 117 strikeouts and a 1.15 WHIP.
Gray's most recent seasons are his best in over a decade
The 14-year veteran pitcher achieved his previous career-high of 14 wins last season. However, his two other 14-win campaigns came over a decade ago when he reached the same number in consecutive seasons in 2014 and 2015.

— Red Sox (@RedSox) August 16, 2026All in all, Gray has put together a solid career
Before winning 13 in 2024 and 14 in 2024 — he also surpassed 200 strikeouts each season — and then what he's already accomplished this season, Gray endured four rough years in a row. He failed to reach double-digit victories from 2020-23, posting ERAs above 3.00 in three of those four seasons and 4.19 in 2021.
A three-time All-Star, Gray's roller coaster of a career has led to him compiling 140 wins, a cumulative 3.52 ERA and 2,042 strikeouts in 362 games and 353 starts during his time with the then-Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals and now the Red Sox.
