Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayBoston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been the subject of trade rumors for months. A deal may finally happen in the coming days.
Julian McWilliams of CBS Sports reported that the Red Sox are willing to move Duran ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
Duran could be regarded as a change-of-scenery candidate as he is in the midst of his worst season in the majors. He has posted a disappointing .195/.252/.337 batting line in his 429 plate appearances entering Friday, with 13 homers and 10 doubles and 15 stolen bases.
Boston Red Sox could have solid market for Jarren Duran despite down year
Duran's lack of performance on the diamond is only a part of his issues. He has been the center of controversy several times this season, flipping off fans (although he may have had a good reason), criticizing a reporter and then deleting his Instagram and becoming irritated when first baseman Willson Contreras did not attempt to tag up from third on a fly ball to short left field. Trading Duran could be a matter of addition by subtraction for the Red Sox.
Despite those issues and disappointing performance, Duran could still have a robust market. The Padres are known to covet Duran and have attempted to trade for him since 2024. The Astros are looking for a left-handed hitting outfielder. Other teams in need of help in the outfield, such as the Guardians or Royals, could be a potential landing spot, as Duran is controlled through the 2028 season.
