The Boston Red Sox got terrible news on Tuesday.
Curtis Mead is being put on the injured list after being diagnosed with a fractured left wrist, according to a report from Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
The news comes literally days after the Red Sox snagged Mead. They traded for him with the Washington Nationals in a deal that closed last week, in exchange for left-handed pitcher Connelly Early.
"I've been told by a source that Curtis Mead has a broken wrist, which led to the club calling up Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester," Cassell stated in his post on X.

So, how bad is this loss for the Sox? It's bad. George Bissell of NBC Sports says it's the worst possible result for the player.
"It’s the worst-case scenario outcome for Mead after he was drilled by a pitch during the second at-bat of his Red Sox debut against the Athletics on Monday night," Bissell notes.
He adds, "There's a strong possibility his season is over given the severity of the injury. Cassell adds that Nick Sogard is coming up from Triple-A Worcester to take Mead’s roster spot. It’ll be Caleb Durbin handling third base with Anthony Seigler moving back into a starting role at the keystone."
This news is also a bit surprising, because after the game, Mead told reporters that "everything looked OK" on his X-ray.
Before the injury, Mead had 17 home runs and a 133 OPS+ for the season. Seigler, as Bissell noted, is likely to take over in his place.
