The Rangers have selected infielder Jonah Bride from Triple-A Round Rock, per a team announcement. They optioned outfielder Alejandro Osuna to Round Rock to make room for Bride on the 26-man roster and moved right-hander Jack Leiter to the 60-day injured list to clear a 40-man spot.

Bride, whom the Athletics chose in the 23rd round of the 2018 draft, appeared in the majors in each season from 2022-25. He divided 214 games and 690 plate appearances among the A’s, Marlins and Twins over that span. Bride hit an impressive .276/.357/.461 (124 wRC) with 11 home runs, a 20.2% strikeout rate and an 11% walk rate in a career-high 272 trips to the plate with the Marlins in 2024. However, after he got off to a slow start in April 2025, Miami traded him to Minnesota for cash considerations. The change of scenery didn’t work out for Bride, whose numbers continued to tank with the Twins. He ended a homer-less year with a miserable .170/.248/.188 line, a 23 wRC+ and a 31.2% K rate in 125 PA.

The Twins designated Bride for assignment last June. After clearing waivers, he rode out the year with their Triple-A affiliate. Bride then settled for a minor league deal with the Rangers in the offseason. Before they selected his contract, the 30-year-old got off to a nice .282/.401/.425 start with 10 homers, nine steals and more walks than strikeouts (16.7% to 16%) with Round Rock. Even in the offensively charged Pacific Coast League, wRC+ indicates Bride’s production has been 16% better than average.

All of Bride’s defensive work in the majors has come in the corner infield spots and second base. Bride has spent most of his time at the hot corner, where the right-handed hitter will start for the Rangers in Sunday’s game against Orioles lefty Cade Povich. Because Bride is out of options, he will have to go through waivers if the Rangers try to send him back down.

Leiter went on the 15-day IL on June 19 and then underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery a few days later. The shift to the 60-day IL will have no real effect on his timeline for a potential return. Leiter threw a 33-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, but he has yet to embark on a rehab assignment.
