It's been a disastrous start for Rangers under new manager Derek McInnes and the injury to Youssef Chermiti just about sums things up. Just hours after rumours emerged that the Gers had rejected Galatasaray's £22m offer, the forward was stretchered off against Hibernian.

Hibs' last-minute winner soon followed and things have only become worse since, with the Ibrox club confirming the news of Chermiti's ACL injury.

Rangers released a statement which read: "Following assessment, striker Youssef Chermiti suffered an ACL injury in Sunday’s match with Hibernian. Youssef will be out of action for a significant period of time. Everyone at Rangers is with him as he begins his recovery."

It's a major blow for the Gers, who rejected big money to keep hold of their forward who will now miss the majority of the campaign. The Scottish giants have now been forced back into the transfer market in the hope of making Sheffield United's Ryan One an instant replacement.

Without Chermiti, it doesn't make for pretty reading as far as McInnes is concerned. The new manager desperately needs Lawrence Shankland to find the form that earned him a move to Ibrox in the first place. Failing that, One would need to hit the ground running.

The Sheffield United striker is still just 20 years old and full of potential. Having only played 127 minutes in the Championship last season before a loan move to Lincoln City, he needs a move to Ibrox just as much as Rangers need him.

On paper, it's certainly a gamble from the Scottish giants. One is unproven and in dire need of minutes. It was the same with Chermiti 12 months ago, however, and he went onto score 15 league goals in his debut campaign.

With time ticking away to find a replacement, Rangers have the task of luring the Sheffield United gem to Ibrox as soon as possible.

As reported by Ben Jacobs, Rangers are now in 'talks' to sign One from Sheffield United. They've already launched a loan to buy offer to sign the young forward, which the Blades have rejected, but negotiations remain ongoing.

Whether talks end with the 20-year-old on his way to Glasgow remains to be seen, but Rangers' intentions are clear. Fresh from the news of Chermiti's ACL injury, they want another forward.

One is a player just waiting to burst into life, as summed up by praise from Lincoln City manager Michael Skubala, who dubbed the forward a "sensational talent" during his loan spell last season.
