When Pademelon started SIDE QUEST as a secondary brand under the Pademelon name, their goal was simple: design and 3D print specialized parts and accessories to solve very specific trail-side problems. But lately, the Australian brand that’s known for its Steering Damper has come across another problem, and today, they open their digital vault to solve it.

It seems that riders who are outside of Australia are getting nailed with crazy international shipping fees when ordering SIDE QUEST products. In their words, “Spending $15 AUD on a smart, protective component makes perfect sense – but spending double or triple that amount to fly a lightweight piece of TPU across the world does not.”

To solve that problem, SIDE QUEST opened its digital vault. So you can now purchase and download their proprietary STL fabrication files straight from their site.

SIDE QUEST has been receiving a lot of requests to release their digital fabrication files. The brand had never even thought about opening up its proprietary files to share.

Physical products have always been their thing, so it never occurred to them. After a few customers asked about buying the files, they started setting up an infrastructure to help deliver clean digital assets.

What About Pricing?

SIDE QUEST wanted to be direct when they talked about the pricing. They know these files are not cheap, and they are not free. They also know that there are a lot of riders who expect 3D print files to be open-source.

But the shapes of the SIDE QUEST parts represent extensive product development time including real-world testing on the rowdiest trails in Tasmania, which spawned several design iterations.

So, SIDE QUEST wants you to know that when you purchase a file, you are paying for the engineering expertise that ensures the part actually works when the trail gets rough. That’s fair.

You’ll notice the “new” next to the Pump Mount. Well, it’s a brand new file that was just launched. It’s like their existing pump mount that’s specifically for the Santa Cruz frames that are equipped with a Glovebox. This Pump Mount utilizes the same secure, mechanical design. It’s engineered to fit the OneUp Components Everyday Carry (EDC) 70cc pump. But, but they’ve adapted the mounting interface to drop perfectly into Specialized frames utilizing SWAT 2.0 doors.

No rattling, no loose tools, and zero international shipping delays. Nice.

Respecting the Craft

Pademelon wants you to know that when you access the files on their website, you’ll see a digital asset license check box on the product page. They said the terms are literal, simple, and completely non-corporate:

• Personal use only: Absolutely no digital file sharing and no commercial sale of physical prints.
• No refunds: Due to the nature of digital delivery, all asset sales are final.
• Rider accountability: You accept full responsibility for your own print calibration, machine operation, and tool safety.
