Detroit Pistons are entering an important offseason as the organization continues trying to turn its young core into a legitimate championship contender.

One of the major decisions facing the franchise will involve the future of Ausar Thompson, who recently earned First Team All-Defense honors after a breakout season.

Although Detroit’s playoff run exposed weaknesses across the roster, it also reinforced just how valuable Thompson has become to the team on both ends of the floor.

“(Thompson) was big-time,” president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said.

Langdon praised Thompson’s growth throughout the season, highlighting both his competitiveness and team-oriented mentality.

“He took a huge step last year, and as the season went on, you saw how much he impacted the game on both ends of the floor,” he said. “He competes at a high level. He is team-first. He is going to put in the work.”

Detroit also remains optimistic that Thompson can continue improving offensively after already establishing himself as one of the league’s top defenders.

“Remember, last year, he did not play a full season,” Langdon said.

According to the Pistons executive, Thompson should have fewer restrictions this offseason and will be able to focus more heavily on his development.

“You will not have to worry about Thompson putting in the work and competing,” Langdon added.
