Trajan Langdon chose not to make a major all-in move at the trade deadline, instead sending out Jaden Ivey in a deal that brought Kevin Huerter to the Detroit Pistons along with a draft pick swap that improved Detroit’s position from No. 28 to No. 21 in this year’s draft.

While the Pistons did not significantly upgrade their scoring depth during the season, the playoff run reportedly gave the organization a clearer understanding of where the roster currently stands.

Now attention is shifting toward whether Detroit will pursue a larger offseason move to find another elite scoring option alongside Cade Cunningham.

“We’re always going to feel like we can get better and that’s the goal, is to be a championship contender,” the president of basketball operations for the Pistons said.

The rapid progress of the team has also accelerated expectations around the franchise much earlier than anticipated.

“We didn’t think it would come this fast, these questions about being a championship contender after Year 2,” Langdon said.

According to the Detroit executive, the organization understands how quickly the rebuild has advanced compared to where the team stood when he first arrived.

“Two years ago when I took the job, nobody in here thought I’d be getting championship contender questions two years later,” he said. “But here we are.”
