The New York Yankees are currently in one of their worst offensive stretches in franchise history, averaging just 3.2 runs per game in their last 10.

Along with the team struggles have come struggles from individual players, and no player is currently slumping worse than first baseman/designated hitter Paul Goldschmidt.

Paul Goldschmidt joins unfortunate franchise history

A 0-for-4, four-strikeout performance in Tuesday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays made Goldschmidt hitless in his last 30 at-bats, becoming just the eighth player in franchise history to reach such a slump.

He becomes the first since Aaron Hicks in 2022 and joins a list that includes several franchise icons.

Entering June 25, Goldschmidt was hitting .301 and had been one of the surprise players in MLB history. Fast forward just two short weeks later, and he's batting just .261 and in a career-worst slump.

Goldschmidt has quickly gone from looking like one more stellar season in a storied career to an aging and declining veteran in the blink of an eye.

Can Paul Goldschmidt continue to be in the lineup?

With several injuries still affecting the Yankees lineup, Goldschmidt will likely continue to be in the everyday lineup due to a lack of better options for manager Aaron Boone.

A continued cold stretch, though, will force Boone to give Goldschmidt a mental reset day to clear his mind and hope to get back to swinging a hot bat like he was in the early part of the season.
