Now, this November, the movie, ‘I Play Rocky,’ will hit theatres, and it sure looks like the movie will, at the very least, recreate and celebrate the magic, the euphoria, the sheer pump-your-fists-in-the-air inspiration the original, brilliant film had and still has. Maybe the new film will create its own magic.

Directed by Peter Farrelly, written by Peter Gamble, and starring Anthony Ippolito as ‘Rocky Balboa,’ the forthcoming film really does feel like a treat for ‘Rocky’ fans. The official trailer recently dropped, and after a few minutes of teaser magic, it’s clear an enormous effort at authenticity has been at work here. Ippolito is a dead ringer for Sly/Rocky, in terms of not only looks, but mannerisms and voice also.

As for the supporting cast, the folks who respectfully portray Burt Young, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burgess Meredith, and the other ‘Rocky’ regulars, well, they look to be pinpoint punch accurate as well.

The new film will delve into how Sly, again more broke than broke, wanted, no, needed, to show the world what he could do, and he knew he could only do so by writing a dynamite script. “Are you delusional?” Stallone is asked at one point in the new film, in response to his belief that he had the makings of an actor or, even less likely, a star.

So, urged on by then girlfriend, later wife, Sasha, Sly (inspired by real-life slugger Chuck Wepner’s efforts in the ring with Muhammad Ali in March of 1975), got busy writing his life-changing – you could even argue film-changing – script.

The rest is history, and in November this history will be repeated. The loving tribute promises a heck of a lot, and judging by the fantastic trailer, much will indeed be delivered on the 50th anniversary of what might just be the finest underdog/boxing/love story film of them all.

Stallone played ‘Rocky,’ and he did it again and again, in doing so giving us all a franchise to cheer, cheer, cheer for. Now, a new, also largely unknown actor will tackle the role. And, boy, has Ippolito done his homework. As have Farrelly and Gamble.

Personally, I cannot wait for this one!
