Nottingham Forest are now readying a move for an "unbelievable" Championship player, and they want to get a deal done quickly.
Vitor Pereira makes plans clear ahead of transfer window
After being involved in the Premier League relegation battle for large parts of the season, it is important Forest get their recruitment right this summer, and Vitor Pereira has now outlined his plans.
"What is in my mind is we don’t need to change a lot of players, we just need to balance the squad," Pereira said.
"We don’t need a big squad, because if you are not in European competitions you don’t need a big squad. But we need to have at least two players at a level in each position - this is something we must work on.
"The Europa League was a strong motivation for us, but you don’t have time to work. It is very difficult to prepare for games because you play every three days."
“Next season will be a different challenge. I hope we can create something strong and with the same spirit. With more connection, we can improve our level, have confidence and try to be in the best position in the table.
Elliot Anderson could be at the centre of one of the sagas of the summer, with the England international attracting interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.
Should Anderson depart, it will be vital for the Tricky Trees to bring in a new central midfielder, and Evangelos Marinakis wants to get a deal for a Championship star done soon.
Nottingham Forest readying quick move for "unbelievable" star
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest are now preparing a quick move for Hayden Hackney, following Middlesbrough's 1-0 defeat against Hull City in the Championship play-off final.
Boro coming up short against the Tigers paves the way for Hackney's exit this summer, with the Championship side willing to cash-in for a fee of £25m, given that he has just one year remaining on his contract.
A whole host of rival Premier League clubs are also interested in signing the 23-year-old, given the level of some of his performances in the Championship this season, for which he scooped up the Player of the Season award.
Lauded as "unbelievable" by pundit Gabriel Sutton, the Boro star enjoyed a stellar Championship campaign, starting 38 games in the regular season.
Hayden Hackney's Championship season by numbers
- 3,314 minutes played
- 5 goals
- 8 assists
- 86.5% pass-completion rate
- 68 tackles
- 21 interceptions
- 205 recoveries
£25m seems like a reasonable fee for a player of Hackney's quality, and the Englishman has proven he could be an ideal Anderson replacement.
