Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayTyson Fury’s attempt to secure a world title opportunity for his younger brother Tommy Fury has drawn an unexpected response from WBC cruiserweight champion Noel Mikaelian.
Fury recently suggested that Tommy would match up well with Mikaelian and even backed him to win the fight.
“Tommy would have a good fight with Noel Mikaelian, the WBC champion. Tommy has the ability to beat him,” Fury said to iFL TV.
Mikaelian did not reject the idea. Instead, he offered Tommy a title shot on one condition.
“If your brother wants a title shot, I’m up for it. But only if you vouch to fight me next,” Mikaelian replied.
The exchange quickly turned attention from Tommy to Tyson, with Mikaelian effectively challenging the former heavyweight champion while responding to the proposed title fight.
Any potential matchup involving Tommy Fury remains highly speculative. Tommy (11-0, 4 KOs) has not fought in a professional bout since defeating Kenan Hanjalic by six-round unanimous decision on May 9, 2025. Last Saturday, the 27-year-old outpointed Eddie Hall over six rounds in a crossover exhibition promoted by Misfits Boxing on DAZN PPV.
Despite his unbeaten record, Tommy is not ranked in the top 15 by any of the four major sanctioning bodies and has yet to establish himself as a contender at cruiserweight.
The bigger obstacle may be Mikaelian’s current championship obligations. The WBC has already ordered the Armenian-German champion to defend his cruiserweight title against David Benavidez, who recently moved up and captured the WBC belt at light heavyweight.
If Mikaelian proceeds with the Benavidez fight, opportunities for a voluntary defense against Tommy Fury would likely be limited. That leaves the exchange looking more like a social media challenge than a realistic near-term fight, although it has already succeeded in bringing Tyson Fury into the conversation.
