Allow me to set the scene for you.
It is Friday, July 17, 2026 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Miami Marlins and Brewers are playing a taut game that is tied at one going into the bottom of the ninth inning. After getting the first two batters out, Marlins closer Pete Fairbanks runs into some trouble. Joey Ortiz singles to center and steals second base, and then Christian Yelich walks to fill the vacant base. Up to the plate comes Jackson Chourio. He swings and misses at the first Fairbanks offering. He fouls off the next pitch, and the pitch after that. Chourio shakes his head—had he not been so late hitting that last four-seamer, it would have been an opposite field game-winning home run. Instead, the count remains no balls and two strikes. Fairbanks changes things up, next throwing a slider after three straight fastballs.
