There seems to be a one-way door forming at Newcastle United. Whilst their best stars are heading towards the exit door, the Magpies are struggling to welcome reinforcements of their own in what is truly a nightmare scenario.

That simply has to change, starting with the Bruno Guimaraes situation. The Brazilian has already asked to leave St James' Park and as much as Newcastle deny it, his exit seems inevitable. This time around, they must be prepared to land an instant replacement and could do so by signing Danilo.

Newcastle will be getting desperate by now. They've lost Sandro Tonali, missed out on Johan Manzambi and are likely to lose Guimaraes. They simply cannot afford to lose out on Danilo and have reportedly registered their interest in the former Nottingham Forest man as a result.
Botafogo are reportedly looking for around €30m (£26m) to sell their midfielder this summer and whilst that's beyond AS Roma's range, Newcastle have undeniable cash to burn this summer.
The midfielder has stolen plenty of headlines since returning to Brazil and could now return to the Premier League in style. As far as reinforcements go, he could even become an excellent bargain after scoring seven goals from the middle of the park last season.
Even with Danilo, Newcastle would likely return to the transfer market for more options. As their midfield gets stripped apart, the 25-year-old will need to be the first of at least two options.

Newcastle are once again back at the drawing board and this time, it's Danilo who's on their radar.

According to reports in Brazil, as relayed by UOL Esporte, Newcastle are in the race to sign Danilo, registering their interest and making contact to sign the race for the midfielder.

The midfielder shares an agent with Guimaraes, making any personal negotiations far easier for the Magpies. Guimaraes' agent will also know that, as soon as Newcastle have their replacement, an exit for his client becomes a lot more feasible.

£26m Danilo could become an undeniable bargain

It can be tempting to focus on European options when assessing the midfield market, but that's where absurd transfer fees are born. Having been rejected time and time again, Newcastle need to get smarter. They need to shift their focus towards Brazil and towards Danilo, who enjoyed an excellent campaign last time out.

For a player who's already got Premier League experience and is now at the peak of his powers, £26m would be an absolute bargain in the current midfield market.
