The challenge lies with Rodriguez’s schedule. Bam still plans to pursue a unification bout against Christian Medina later this year before moving up to super bantamweight for the Inoue fight.

Bam must first defeat Medina, avoid injuries, and then move up two weight classes in time for negotiations. Any delay could push the fight beyond Inoue’s preferred timetable.

Inoue has already collected every major title at 122 pounds, leaving few challenges in the division. A move to featherweight has long been viewed as the logical next step, making Rodriguez one of the final marquee opponents available before that move.

The division offers few meaningful challenges beyond another defense against familiar opponents, leaving little incentive to remain at super bantamweight if the Rodriguez fight cannot be finalized. A successful move also opens additional championship opportunities in featherweight.

Jesse also has plenty at stake. A victory over Inoue would rank among the biggest wins in boxing and significantly strengthen his position in pound-for-pound discussions.

Both sides have expressed interest in making the fight. Their schedules now have to align before Inoue’s March deadline.
