Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayJon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou is the one heavyweight fight fans have been clamoring for, but the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions isn’t holding his breath.
Jones was featured on the MVP MMA 1 broadcast this past Saturday. He witnessed Ngannou deliver a first-round knockout victory over Philipe Lins inside the Intuit Dome. During his post-fight interview, “The Predator” called for a clash with Jones.
Later on during the MVP MMA 1 broadcast, “Bones” said he hopes to get out of his UFC deal to fight Ngannou inside the cage. MVP boss Nakisa Bidarian is aware that UFC likely won’t be cutting ties with Jones, but what about co-promotion?
Speaking to reporters during the MVP MMA 1 post-fight press conference, Bidarian said he doubts UFC CEO Dana White will agree to a cross promotion event.
“I don’t think it’s very realistic because I don’t think Dana’s going to allow that to happen in any way, shape, or form because they know that it will be the biggest fight that can happen at the heavyweight division in a very long time. I wish it could happen and I think Jon deserves that moment. I think the sport deserves that moment.”
Bidarian mentioned that different companies and leagues often work together to hold events in sports outside of UFC.
“If you look at the boxing landscape, co-promotion happens all the time,” Bidarian said. “If you look at the MMA landscape outside the UFC, co-promotion happens all the time. If you look at the NBA, they go to Europe and play games against European teams, and they go to Asia and they play against Asian teams. They go to Australia and play against Australian teams. It happens all the time.”
MVP appears to be open to doing business with UFC despite the war of words.
“We’re more than willing,” Bidarian said. “There’s no hurt feelings.”
Jake Paul, the other co-founder of MVP, took exception to UFC announcing Conor McGregor’s return fight during Ngannou’s walkout. He said the top MMA promotion was piggybacking off the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano event.
