The Big Bore Hybrid valve is machined from CNC-milled 7075 aluminum and feels every bit as high-end as it looks. In the hand, it feels solid, precise and robust – clearly premium class.
The Muc-Off Big Bore Hybrid tubeless valves are available in four sizes to suit different rim depths: Small, Medium, Large, and XL.

To ensure a perfect fit, Muc-Off includes several rubber bases which will adapt to different rim profiles. It’s a small detail, but a very effective one. For our review, we mounted and tested the Muc-Off Big Bore Hybrid valve on three bikes.

How to Install the Muc-Off Big Bore Hybrid Valve
Installation is just as straightforward as with a standard valve. It fits any rim with a Presta drill hole, but it does require a pump with a Schrader head – something which most modern pumps already have anyway. Build quality and fit are spot on: the valve sits securely and seals properly, exactly as you’d expect from Muc-Off.
Included: two valves, a small installation tool, a tube for topping up sealant, plus spare rubber bases and two spare O-rings for the ball-valve housing.
If you replace a standard Presta valve with the Muc-Off Big Bore Hybrid valve, you’ll need a pump with a Schrader head.Once air comes into play, the Big Bore Hybrid valve shows what it can do: the open, straight-through internal channel delivers seriously impressive airflow, as there’s no valve core to get in the way. Muc-Off claims up to 254% more airflow than with a standard Presta valve. During tubeless setup with a booster or compressor, you can feel how evenly and forcefully the air rushes in – pop! – and the tire snaps into place on the rim noticeably faster.
The highlight is the integrated ball valve. It has to be closed manually before removing the pump, to reliably prevent any loss of pressure. No hissing, no air loss – tire pressure stays stable. Topping up sealant is just as easy: open the ball valve, let the air out, pour in the sealant, pump it back up – done. Even better, if you want to know how much sealant is still inside the tire, you can check it easily with a thin stick, or Muc-Off’s own dipstick (sold separately).
On Erik’s Roval Traverse Carbon rim, which has a 25 mm rim depth, both the Medium (35 mm) and Large (45 mm) sizes were a good fit.
The DT Swiss rim on Manne’s eMTB has a depth of 22 mm – he used the Muc-Off valves in size Medium.
Thomas is running DT Swiss G 1800 rims on his gravel bike with a rim depth of 25 mm, fitted with Muc-Off valves in size Large.On our Roval Traverse Carbon rims with a 25 mm rim depth, both the Medium (35 mm) and Large (45 mm) sizes were a good fit. Besides these two options, the valves are also available in Small (30 mm) and XL (60 mm). At around 10 g more per valve, the Big Bore Hybrid is barely any heavier than standard valves, but it’s clearly more robust. Thanks to its design, the missing valve core, and the noticeably higher airflow, the risk of sealant clogging up the valve is reduced significantly.

Out on the trail, the valve delivers across the board. No clogging, no pressure loss, no fiddling – exactly how tubeless should be. It stays reliably sealed, makes topping up sealant easy, and looks properly premium while doing it.

Tire inserts are no problem for the Muc-Off tubeless valves. The four side ports on the valve shaft ensure that sealant can still be topped up even when tire inserts are installed.One small caveat – and a wink included: if you accidentally open the ball valve, the tire will dump all of its air and some of its sealant in a split second. Go easy on that little lever.😉
Even with the valve open, meaning the lever is positioned sideways, the screwed-on valve cap prevents any air from escaping from the tire.What if the lever gets knocked while you’re riding? We consider accidental opening of the valve through unintended contact on the trail highly unlikely – especially since the lever doesn’t move all that easily. And in the unlikely event that it does happen, the screwed-on valve cap reliably prevents any air from escaping, so you won’t be left with an unexpected flat tire.
Conclusion
The Muc-Off Big Bore Hybrid valve isn’t a gimmick – it’s a functional, stylish upgrade for tubeless fans. Ditching the valve core and replacing it with a ball valve is a genuinely smart move. The result: massively improved airflow, and no more clogged valves Huge airflow makes tire seating easier, and makes sealant top-ups much simpler. Low hassle – maximum style.
