Furthering his breakout season, Miguel Vargas made history in his first All-Star Game on Tuesday night. 

With the American League already holding a commanding lead, Vargas crushed a 2-0 pitch into the second deck in deep left field. 

But Vargas' solo shot meant more than just adding one more insurance run to the scoreboard and helping the AL team secure a 4-0 victory.

Vargas, 26, became only the third Chicago White Sox player to ever hit a home run in an All-Star Game, placing his name along side franchise legends in Frank Thomas (1995) and Magglio Ordonez (2001). 

Vargas' big moment came after entering the game as a pinch-runner and then playing third base. He finished the night going 1-for-2.

Miguel Vargas has been enjoying a career year in 2026 

Referred to as one of the surprises of 2026 during the call of his home run, Vargas has already put together the best season of his career to date. He entered the break with a new single-season high 21 home runs and 59 RBI, one shy of matching the 60 he drove in throughout all of last season. 

Vargas' slash line reads .245/.355/.493 in 94 games and 343 at-bats. 

Miguel Vargas started his career as a utility player for the Dodgers 

The Cuban-born Vargas, who made his MLB debut in 2022 and spent the first 2.5 years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is now in his second full season with the White Sox after switching leagues following a July 2024 trade. 

A utility player with the Dodgers at the start of his career, Vargas hit just 11 home runs with 49 RBI and a .201 average in 129 games before earning more of an opportunity in Chicago. And based on Vargas' memorable 2026 to this point, it's fair to assume he's finally found his place in the game.
