The judges scored the 12-round contest 119-109, 118-110, and 116-112 for Garner, who improved to 20-0 (10 KOs). Magnesi falls to 26-3 (13 KOs).
The bout delivered nonstop action from the opening bell, with both fighters willing to engage throughout the contest.
Magnesi had success in spots and kept the fight competitive through the middle rounds.
However, Garner was able to maintain a strong pace and repeatedly answered back during the exchanges.
One of the fight’s talking points came in the fourth round when Magnesi was ruled down in an exchange that some observers viewed as a slip rather than a knockdown. Regardless of the ruling, Garner continued to build his lead as the fight moved into the middle rounds.
The pace remained high throughout the second half of the contest.The fight remained competitive during the later rounds as both boxers continued to exchange punches.
Magnesi remained involved through the closing rounds, with both fighters continuing to trade punches until the final bell. The action never slowed, helping make the bout one of the most entertaining fights seen in Britain this year.
Garner finished strongly over the final rounds and secured the biggest victory of his career.
With the win, Garner adds the WBC interim title to a résumé that already includes British, Commonwealth, and European honors at 130 pounds. The victory also places him in position for a future shot at full WBC champion O’Shaquie Foster.
For Southampton, the event marked a memorable night as Garner delivered a title-winning performance in the first major boxing card held at the home of Southampton FC.
