Michael Carrick appears to have sent the Man United hierarchy a clear message ahead of the new season.

The Manchester United head coach has emphasised that despite taking positive steps during the summer window, the club must continue pushing for further reinforcements before the transfer deadline passes.

Michael Carrick wants more Manchester United signings

Speaking candidly in an interview with Sky Sports, Carrick made his stance clear regarding squad depth and additional recruitment.

While acknowledging that the squad is in a healthy position, he insisted that United cannot afford to stand still as they prepare for a demanding campaign.

Carrick stressed that any potential arrivals must elevate the overall quality or provide crucial squad depth as United aim to build on their momentum.

He said: “We’ve got a pretty good balance in all when you lay the squad out, but of course we would like MORE…”.

“We would like more, we need to keep pushing for more”, told Sky Sports.

“There’s one or two areas where we’d like to improve”.

Manchester United’s transfer business so far

Manchester United have already completed notable business in the 2026/27 summer window to reshape their first team.

The Red Devils prioritized strengthening their engine room following the departure of Casemiro, bringing in dynamic midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined £85 million outlay.

Additionally, experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow was brought in on a free transfer from Leeds United to provide support for Senne Lammens.

The squad has also been bolstered by the return of Marcus Rashford following his loan spell at Barcelona, giving Carrick another proven attacking option.

However, with links to left-back targets and potential midfield additions remaining active, Carrick’s comments serve as an unmistakable signal to Old Trafford decision-makers that the club’s transfer work is not yet finished.

Which positions could Man United strengthen?

United’s remaining transfer priorities appear to centre around defensive and midfield depth.

The club have continued to be linked with potential left-back targets, while further midfield reinforcements could also be considered depending on availability in the final weeks of the window.

Carrick’s comments suggest that United will not simply sign players for the sake of adding numbers.

Carrick puts pressure on Man United hierarchy

The message from Carrick is ultimately straightforward: Manchester United need more.

The club now have to determine whether there are further opportunities capable of taking the squad to another level.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Carrick’s public comments could put additional pressure on United’s recruitment team to deliver.

The manager appears pleased with the foundations that have been laid, but he does not believe the job is finished.
